Ian Kent and his family make their home in Swanley, Kent, however his studio is located in the heart of London, capital of England. He enjoys a versatile artistic ability that has been developed from a very young age and considers it "a gift". He has many areas of artistic interest, but wildlife is and always has been his most favourite subject. He has painted African, European, Asian and North American wildlife. Ian's artistic goal is to capture the drama of wildlife in all its colours and splendour. His work continues to grow in richness, composition, and detail
Ian is a member of the Wildlife Art Society International. His work has sold in Australia, Europe and America. In October 2003 at the Wildlife Art Society's Annual Exhibition his painting "Musk Ox Scout" was given a "Highly Commended" award. Until recently the main source of Ian's artistic work has been from commissions which could include any subject, but mainly portraiture. Although he enjoys this type of work, wildlife art is his passion and something which he truly likes to focus on.
Some may say that living in England and painting pictures of wildlife from around the world might be difficult. Although Ian has travelled to Australia and Europe, he is quick to point out that gathering reference material this way, be it useful, is only part of the picture, most important of all is the imagination of the artist. Before committing to any painting Ian will spend hours gathering data from books, video and his own reference photo library. He feels the process of immersing himself in the subject is essential to a good end result, something that is accurate, original and breathtaking.
Ian is inspired by many other artists for different reasons, amongst these are Carl Brenders for the realism and detail in his work, Terry Isaac and Robert Bateman for their landscapes and picture settings and David Shepherd O.B.E for his work in the area of animal conservation and for making modern wildlife art popular.
