Peter was born in Burma before the war. His father was a regular soldier who was also an artist and he used to take his son into the jungle to sketch. Perhaps this is where Peter acquired his interest in wildlife although the art is probably in his genes.
During 1939 his father was transferred to North Africa and the 8th Army while his mother, older sister and younger brother, were evacuated to Port Shepstone in South Africa. This is when Peter started to acquire his love of Africa and its wildlife.
After the war it was generally recognised that a young man should acquire a profession and Peter trained and qualified as an engineer; but the desire to paint has always been to the fore. He started painting portraits (he always had a flair for getting a likeness) and learnt much from his good friend, Robert (Bob) Sharps, a professional artist and excellent teacher. The interest in painting wildlife came later.
Peter has been a member of The London Sketch Club and is currently a member of The Wildlife Art Society International. He has exhibited widely, including the Society of Wildlife Artists.
