Since childhood, I have been fascinated by wildlife & wild places. I taught art to secondary level until 1983, then began to work as a full-time artist, at first painting on silk, then with more conventional painting & drawing media, with acrylic paint or pastels preferred.

I am particularly inspired by the grace & beauty of cats of all sizes, and many of my works reflect this.

The majority of my work, however, is based on my love of British Wildlife, and much of my time is spent in the countryside surrounding my home in Warwickshire, or in those wild places of Wales, Northumberland & Scotland, allowing me access to a glimpse into the wild.

Quick field sketches, observation and photos are vital, and this reference, combined with the abiding interest of a naturalist, helps to add authenticity to my work done back in the studio. Lately, I have found a new fascination! Water, both inland and the sea, reveals so many moods, colours and reflections, coupled with a wider range of wildlife to be found there, that I have discovered an infinitely rich source of inspiration for future work.
