Valerie has become very well known for her sympathetic paintings and drawings of our native species of animals and birds. For the last twenty five years she has dedicated herself to recording images of British Wildlife in one of the most difficult painting mediums of watercolour and her favourite medium of graphite.
Living in Worcester she is surrounded by the beautiful and varied Worcestershire Countryside and its wild and not so wild inhabitants which are her main inspiration. She is especially drawn to the natural and man-made waterways, which provide green corridors for a wildlife population under the constant threat of urbanisation.
Cycling and walking along these waterways in the early mornings and evenings throughout the year provides the background and inspiration for these paintings. Spending many hours just observing the natural world around her over the years Valerie has developed a photographic and emotional memory for atmosphere and colour. Besides making detailed working sketches from life of plants, the landscape and live and dead animal specimens, Valerie takes many photographs as backup reference.
Valerie’s work can be found worldwide in books, on material, greetings cards and as limited edition prints.
